The Cossacks
1928. USA. Directed by George Hill. With John Gilbert, Renée Adorée. Based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy. The son of a Cossack leader humiliates his father by being branded a coward for refusing to kill Turks. He redeems himself in battle but falls victim to pride, damaging his relationship with a girl of the tribe. Madalena's posters for the film were based on caricatures of the stars drawn by Al Hirschfeld for the MGM studio press book. Silent. Approx. 102 min.
