This is the first installment of Bodrov's planned trilogy on the life of Genghis Kahn. The film recounts Temudjin's childhood, his years of enslavement, and his ascension to power. Bodrov eschews computers to create a grand-scale spectacle in the epic traditions of Sergei Eisenstein and V.I. Pudovkin. In Mongolian; English subtitles. 126 min.
