  • Tune in Tomorrow...

1990. USA. Directed by Jon Amiel. Screenplay by Mario Vargas Llosa, William Boyd, based on Vargas Llosa's novel Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter. Music by Wynton Marsalis. With Barbara Hershey, Keanu Reeves, Peter Falk, Patricia Clarkson. Amiel transposes Vargas Llosa's story from Peru to New Orleans, circa 1951, while preserving the novel's eccentric humor and surreal blurring of fantasy and reality. A devilish writer finds sensational dialogue for his radio soap opera by eavesdropping on the budding affair between his protégé and his protégé's older, twice-divorced aunt. Marsalis's sweet-and-lowdown score brims with affection for traditional New Orleans jazz and the lush orchestral sounds of Duke Ellington. 107 min.

  • Zoo

1962. The Netherlands. Directed by Bert Haanstra. Music by Pim Jacobs. The Oscar-nominated Dutch documentarian presents a delightful short about the strange behavior of people at the zoo. 10 min.
