Half Moon
2006/07. Iran. Written and directed by Bahman Ghobadi. With Ismail Ghaffari, Allah Morad Rashtiani. Inspired by Mozart's Requiem, Half Moon is simultaneously a meditation on the fear of death and a tribute to the women singers of Iran. Mamo, a renowned Kurdish musician, journeys with his sons to perform a concert in Iraqi Kurdistan after the fall of Saddam Hussein. Despite a wise man's ominous warning of impending misfortune, Mamo continues on, hoping to perform in Iraq with Hesho, a female singer in exile in Iran, who is unable to sing by Iranian law. In Farsi; English subtitles. 107 min.
