A Time for Drunken Horses
2000. Iran. Written and directed by Bahman Ghobadi. With Ayoub Ahmadi, Rojin Ekhtiardini. Ayoub is a young boy living in Iranian Kurdistan, near the Iraqi border. When his father dies, he is obliged to protect his three sisters and a sick brother, Madi, who is in desperate need of surgery. In an attempt to raise money for Madi's operation, Ayoub tries to smuggle merchandise by mule into Iraq. Meanwhile Ayoub's sister, Rojin, marries a suitor on the condition that he smuggle Madi into Iraq for his operation. Despite terrible hardship, the siblings band together for their survival.
