  • Bullitt

1968. USA. Directed by Peter Yates. Screenplay by Alan R. Trustman, Harry Kleiner. Music by Lalo Schifrin. With Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughan, Jacqueline Bissett, Robert Duvall. Justly celebrated for McQueen's breathtaking car chase up and down the streets of San Francisco—a musique concrète of burning rubber and steel—Bullitt also has one of the great opening title sequences of all time. With bold motion graphics by designer Pablo Ferro and a brassy score by the Argentinean-born Schifrin, the intro is a film unto itself, masterfully paced for maximum tension. McQueen plays an honest police lieutenant assigned to protect a key government witness from a mob syndicate, only to find his own superiors and a ruthless politician thwarting him at every turn. 114 min.
