The Tracey Fragments
2007. Canada. Directed by Bruce McDonald. Screenplay by Maureen Medved, based on her novel. With Ellen Page, Ari Cohen, Max McCabe-Lokos. Canadian Front welcomes back Bruce McDonald (The Love Crimes of Gillian Guess, 2004) with this cutting-edge split- and multiple-screen portrait of a very troubled adolescent, Tracey Berkowitz (played by the remarkable Ellen Page), as she faces the multiple circles of domestic, suburban, and mid-city hell. Tracey's brutal days "on the run" are presented as fragments, detached and broken off from a dramatic biography—the disjointed effect is powerful, provocative, and disturbing.
