2001. USA. Directed by Ernie Gehr. Gehr's abiding fascination with early cinema ephemera and the exhibition of moving images is beautifully illuminated in this piece, which had its world premiere at MoMA in November 2001. In Gehr's words, the film features "reflections upon the passing century by way of cinema, penny arcade automata, and carnival amusements—low forms of entertainment that have seized and spooked our imagination, becoming major emblematic icons of twentieth century culture." Cotton Candy is also remarkable for its attention to the effect of sound, synchronous or not. 64 min.
