A country matron living a conservative village life is courted by a local businessman, but after accepting his engagement ring, his further advances disgust her. Disturbed by her reaction, she follows her priest's advice, seeks medical help, and finds that she is, in fact, a man. Horrified, she takes up life in Madrid as "Juan."
