Mean Streets
1973. USA. Directed by Martin Scorsese. Screenplay by Scorsese, Mardik Martin. With Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel. Despite the larger, more sophisticated world around them, Charlie and Johnny Boy could never conceive of leaving the tangled warren of tenements and reassuring insularity that their neighborhood provides. Shot in cinéma-vérité style on the actual streets of Little Italy, Scorsese's authentic coverage is reminiscent of the Italian Neorealist films of the 1940s. 112 min.
