Our Father
2002. Chad. This beautifully photographed story won the Directors' Fortnight, Cannes, 2002, and Best Cinematography, Fespaco, 2003. Fifteen-year-old Tahir and eight-year-old Amine awake one morning to find that their father has abandoned them. Their search for him in the city turns into delinquency when they think they recognize him onscreen at the movies. Stealing the reel of film not only gets them arrested but also sent to a Koranic school far away. In Chadian Arabic; English subtitles. 84 min.
