  • Close-Up

1990. Based on real events, Close-Up is a masterful exploration of the often blurred boundaries between fiction and truth. A man poses as a famous film director for reasons that are not exactly clear—perhaps for money, fame, or to indulge a fantasy? Kiarostami's humane and infinitely complex portrait—using both actual trial footage and reenactments by the people involved—is heartbreaking, lyrical, and inspiring in its fearless uncovering of a fluctuating truth. 98 min.
