    1952. Roberto Rossellini. Screenplay by Rossellini. With Ingrid Bergman, Alexander Knox. A neglectful mother of some social standing begins to care for the poor when her son’s suicide attempt exposes the emptiness of her life. However, her intense involvement in charitable work alarms her husband and friends. Rossellini told Bergman, “I am going to make a story of St. Francis and she’s going to be a woman and it’s going to be you.” 100 min.
