  • Rome Open City

1945. Roberto Rossellini. Screenplay by Rossellini, Sergio Amidei, Federico Fellini. With Anna Magnani, Aldo Fabrizi. An emotional bombshell when first released, Rome Open City was shot on Rome’s streets shortly after the German Occupation and pieced together from the bits of 35mm film that Rossellini was able to scrounge up. The action takes place during the final desperate months of the Occupation, rendering the title somewhat ironic. New restoration by the Cineteca Nazionale. In Italian, English subtitles. 106 min.
