  • Foreigners Out! Schlingensief’s Container

2001. Austria. Directed by Paul Poet. With Christoph Schlingensief, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Einstürzende Neubauten, Gregor Gysi, Elfriede Jelinek, Peter Sellars, Peter Sloterdijk. The movie documents one of Schlingensief’s most controversial projects. Imitating the concept of the reality TV show Big Brother and commenting on the xenophobic political program of one of Austria’s major political parties, Schlingensief set up a container in the city of Vienna, inhabited by a group of immigrants. The events in the container were broadcast live on Austrian TV, and viewers were invited to vote their least favorite participants out of the show—and the country. In German; English subtitles. 90 min.
