    1987/88. Germany. Directed by Christoph Schlingensief. With Helge Schneider, Udo Kier, Karl-Friedrich Mews, Brigitte Kausch, Susanne Bredehöft. Music by Helge Schneider and Menu Total. Mother’s Mask is Schlingensief’s remake of Veit Harlan’s The Great Sacrifice (1944). Drawing inspiration from Charles Baudelaire’s The Flowers of Evil while borrowing a soap opera’s affect, Schlingensief narrates the dramatic story of a family of the German industrial aristocracy. In German; English subtitles. 85 min.
