  • Bonnie and Clyde

1967. USA. Directed by Arthur Penn. Screenplay by David Newman, Robert Benton. With Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman, Estelle Parsons. The screenwriters had hoped to persuade Francois Truffaut to direct, but stage and television veteran Arthur Penn was never better. This romantic and semi-comic revision of 1930s gangster films was one of the quintessential movies of the 1960s, and it helped make icons of Beatty and Dunaway. Cinematographer Burnett Guffey, Benton and Newman, and Parsons all won Oscars. 111 min.
