  • Fahrenheit 451

1966. Great Britain. Directed by Francois Truffaut. Based on the novel by Ray Bradbury. With Oskar Werner, Julie Christie, Cyril Cusack, Anton Diffring. Truffaut’s only English-language venture anticipates a future not entirely unlike our own present, in which the authorities, using available technology, keep tabs on what we do, who we contact, and what we read. As a result, Werner and Christie project a kind of modern disconnect and remoteness, but the ending is one of the most moving in film history. 111 min.
