  • Woman in the Dunes

1963. Japan. Directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara. Screenplay by Kobo Abe, from his novel. With Eiji Okada, Kyoko Kishida, Kojo Mitsui. This beautifully photographed film, with the hero of Alain Resnais’ Hiroshima mon amour as its star, is (like Polanski’s Repulsion) a harrowing, allegorical warning against the female sex. In Japanese; English subtitles. 123 min.
