  • Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

1960. Great Britain. Directed by Karel Reisz. With Albert Finney, Shirley Anne Field, Rachel Roberts, Norman Rossington. Finney’s first major role in Reisz’s debut feature is, as critic Tony Slide says, “the English answer to James Dean.” The film captures a society struggling with social change brought on by the downsizing of its imperial role and changing class structure—with possible lessons for contemporary America. 89 min.
