1925. USA. Directed by Allan Dwan. With Gloria Swanson, Lawrence Gray, Gertrude Astor, Marguerite Evans, Ford Sterling. The film harks back to the days of broad slapstick comedy (of which Sterling had been a master under Mack Sennett), and it includes Swanson’s “Salome” dream sequence. (In Sunset Boulevard, a quarter-century later, the script being written by Norma Desmond is for a remake of this Salome.). Silent, with musical accompaniment. 75 min.
