  • The 400 Blows

1959. France. Directed by Francois Truffaut. With Jean-Pierre Leaud, Claire Maurier, Albert Remy, Patrick Auffay. The beginning of Truffaut’s autobiographical Antoine Doinel cycle made him instantly the most lovable and accessible of the New Wave directors. Even with his first feature, Truffaut was clearly in thrall to his great mentors, Jean Renoir and Alfred Hitchcock. In French; English subtitles. 93 min.
