  • About 111 Girls

2012. Iraq. Directed by Nahid Ghobadi, Bijan Zmanpira. With Reza Behboodi, Mehdi Saki, Amin Sadeghi. Accompanied by his assistant and a guide, a government official carrying a personal message from Iran’s president heads into Iranian Kurdistan to stop 111 young Kurdish women from committing mass suicide in protest against conditions that have left them spinsters. Ghobadi and Zmanpira’s vibrant road movie unfolds in a dramatically colorful physical and human landscape, as the three travelers meander helplessly in a land riddled with the contradictions of the larger nation-state. In Persian, Kurdish; English subtitles. 79 min.
