  • Searching for Sugar Man

2012. Great Britain/Sweden. Directed by Malik Bendjelloul. In the late 1960s Rodriguez, a young Detroit musician, was singled out as the new Bob Dylan. But an album, supported by two highly regarded producers, was poorly received, and the singer disappeared. Over the next 20 years his recordings (and rumors of his on-stage suicide) made him a major cult figure—in South Africa. There, a music writer and a journalist teamed up to uncover the real story, and Searching for Sugar Man reveals the unexpected results of their search, from the inner workings of the music industry to the true fate of Rodriguez and his music.
