    1955. India. Written and directed by Satyajit Ray. Music by Ravi Shankar. With Kanu, Karuna, Subir, Runki Banerji, Uma Das Gupta. Ray’s debut film, and the beginning of his great Apu Trilogy, chronicles a poverty-stricken Bengali family. Shown in a newly struck print, restored by the Satyajit Ray Preservation Project through a collaboration of the Academy Film Archive, the Merchant-Ivory Foundation, and The Film Foundation. In Bengali; English subtitles. 112 min.
