1955. Germany. Directed by Laslo Benedek. With Hilde Krahl. In the last days of World War II, the depleted German army drafts teenage boys to fight on the Eastern Front. These boys are willing to die for the Fatherland, but their mothers will not give up their sons so easily. Winner of the 1956 Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film. In German; English subtitles. 110 min.
