2001. Mozambique. Directed by Orlando Mesquita. Developed at a Sundance-cosponsored workshop in South Africa. A soccer match, improvised. 6 min.

Pixote
1981. Brazil. Directed by Hector Babenco. With Fernando Ramos da Silva. Pixote, a 10-year-old runaway living on the streets in São Paulo, becomes involved in petty crime, prostitution, and, eventually, a murder. Ramos da Silva was an actual street kid, and he was later killed in a 1987 shoot-out with Brazilian police. In Portuguese; English subtitles. 124 min.
