Missing Young Woman
2001. Directed by Lourdes Portillo. Portillo reveals the haunting story of more than 350 kidnapped, raped, and murdered young women from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, a border city where “everything illicit is available.” This groundbreaking investigative work documents a two-year search by the filmmaker, uncovering layers of complicity between government and corporate officials, police, and ordinary individuals. The climate of violence and impunity continues to grow, and the systematized murders of women that began in 1993 continue to this day. In Spanish; English subtitles. 74 min.
