  • For Example Argentina

1983–85. France. Directed by Werner Schroeter. A gripping documentary about acts of terror and torture committed by the military dictatorship in Argentina. Schroeter contrasts the official statements of the regime with the testimony of victims, dissenters, and families of the desaparecidos, trusting that their faces and words will resonate far more powerfully than depictions of actual violence. Schroeter had been invited by the Goethe-Institut Buenos Aires to conduct a workshop with young film students, but had to flee the country because his life was in danger. Courtesy Les Films de l’Atalante. In Spanish; English subtitles. 94 min.
