This landmark work of Egyptian realism, the first of Abu Seif’s collaborations with Mahfouz, follows a widowed mother’s hellish struggle against poverty in the wake of her husband's death. The Beginning and the End lives in the memories of millions of viewers due to its universality. Restored version with new subtitles. In Arabic; English subtitles. 140 min.
