    1955. Egypt. Directed by Tawfik Saleh. With Berlanty Abdel Hamid, Shukry Sarhan, Hassan El Baroudi. A particularly successful early take on new style of Egyptian realism, Saleh’s debut film—and his most popular—concerns a young man who is saving up to marry his boss’s daughter. But when the money becomes available, thanks to a winning lottery ticket, the neighborhood is turned upside-down, revealing everyone’s true colors. In Arabic; English subtitles. 95 min.
