Old Du, a veteran who has survived two world wars and numerous hardships, teaches Gianni the fine art of scavenging, and the two soon combine forces to sell their goods in a nearby town. Olmi’s allegorical film is filled with well-observed detail and a large supporting cast of non-professional actors. 95 min.
