  • Long Live the Man!

1971. Algeria. Directed by Mohamed Zinet. With Himoud Brahimi, Mohamed Zinet, Georges Arnaud. Using an innovative mixture of documentary and fiction, theater director, playwright, and actor Zinet pays tribute to the unique spirit of Algiers. Zinet cleverly juxtaposes scenes of a newly sovereign population with various run-ins with the police, humorously outlining the trials and tribulations facing the country. Considered a cult movie in Algeria, the film is a visionary meditation on the fate of post-colonial Algerian society.
