Day of Wrath
1943. Denmark. Directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer. With Thorkild Roose, Lisbeth Movin, Sigrid Neiiendam, Preben Lerdorff Rye, Anne Svierkier. Dreyer’s parable of intolerance and witchcraft, set in the 17th century, is one of the cinema’s most powerful evocations of a historical period. Yet "between the frames" is the director’s subtle criticism of the then-current German occupation. In Danish; English subtitles. 92 min.
