  • God Respects Us When We Work, but Loves Us When We Dance

1968. USA. Directed by Les Blank, Skip Gerson. Footage from the first love-in in Los Angeles, on Easter Sunday 1967, accompanied by an original music score—featuring plenty of balloons, bubbles, flowers, and dancing. 20 min.

  • Sprout Wings and Fly

1983. USA. Directed and cinematography by Les Blank. Produced and codirected by Alice Gerrard, Conway. Edited by Maureen Gosling. Sound by Mike Seeger. With Tommy Jarrell. Award-winning Appalachian fiddler Thomas Jefferson Jarrell was born in 1901 on the Carolina slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a place known for music, stories, and good whiskey. He and his siblings play fiddle, sing songs, and recount stories from the region. The film's title comes from Jarrell’s tuneful creed: “I eat when I’m hungry, I drink when I’m dry. If I get to feelin’ much better, I’m gonna sprout wings and fly.” 30 min.
