This intimate film reveals the emotions and stresses experienced by children in custodial care, and their relationships with their parents and foster parents. Particular attention is paid to two cases: a pair of siblings, ages seven and nine, as they are about to return to their biological mother after five years in custody; and a teenager, in custody for eight years, who asks her imprisoned father if she can change her surname before starting at a new school.
