The Red Desert
1964. Italy/France. Directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. Screenplay by Antonioni, Tonino Guerra. With Monica Vitti, Richard Harris. A yellow fog—part meteorological, part industrial—permeates an anonymous manufacturing town in northern Italy. Gray buildings rise from the landscape while Giuliana, on the verge of an emotional collapse, wanders in an unwelcoming environment that is altogether modern, manmade, and remote. In Italian; English subtitles. 118 min.
