The Anderson Platoon
1967. France. Directed, produced, and narrated by Pierre Schoendoerffer. Filmed in South Vietnam in the fall of 1966, this documentary follows a Cavalry platoon as it patrols the war-torn Central Highlands. A young African American West Pointer, Lt. Joseph B. Anderson, leads his racially integrated platoon through the daily grind of a war that, at the time, was still considered winnable. This is one of several films by Schoendoerffer that dealt with the complicated and nuanced situation in Indochina and Vietnam. 64 min.
