Abel Gance (1889–1981) was one of the cinema’s most ambitious innovators, and one of its greatest personalities. Through films like La Roue, Napoleon, and his two versions of J’Accuse, Gance sought to do nothing less than revolutionize the movies. These two excellent documentaries serve as an introduction to his life and work.
