You Only Live Once
1937. USA. Directed by Fritz Lang. With Henry Fonda, Sylvia Sidney, Barton MacLane, Jean Dixon. Thirty years before Bonnie and Clyde, Lang’s second American film was a moving portrait of young lovers on the run from the law. Freed from the constraints of M-G-M, Lang was able to express his paranoia and his belief in the inexorability of fate, all with the signature visual acuity he developed in Germany. 86 min.
