Fräulein Else
1929. Germany. Written and directed by Paul Czinner. With Elizabeth Bergner, Albert Basserman, Else Haller, Adele Sandrock. Based on the novella by Arthur Schnitzler (who also wrote the novella that inspired Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut), Fräulein Else tells the story of a father whose debts would be cleared if his beautiful daughter (the luminous Elisabeth Bergner in her first starring role) would consent to appear naked before the prospective savior.
