His Double Life
1933. USA. Directed by Arthur Hopkins. Screenplay by Hopkins, Clara Beranger, based on the novel Buried Alive and the play The Great Adventure, both by Arnold Bennett. With Roland Young. Gish’s second sound film, though rarely noted among the highlights of her career, is an overlooked comedic gem. The film takes advantage of Gish’s chemistry with Young, who plays a successful but agoraphobic painter caught up in a case of mistaken identity. 68 min.
