1936. France. Produced, written, and directed by Marcel Pagnol. With Raimu, Pierre Fresnay, Charpin, Orane Demazis. Pagnol himself seized the directorial reins of this final installment of his Marius trilogy, which also included Marius (1931) and Fanny (1932). Together, the films are a moving and nostalgic homage to the denizens of Marseilles, replete with humor, powerful emotions, and splendid performances. In French; English subtitles. 117 min.
