Hearts of the World
1918. USA. Directed by D. W. Griffith. Screenplay by Griffith (as M. Gaston de Tolignac). With Dorothy Gish, Robert Harron. Griffith’s unabashedly patriotic World War I epic stars Gish and Harron as Americans living in France as the war breaks out and their love sparks. When they are separated by tragedy, Gish literally claws her way back to Harron, displaying a ferocious emotional intensity that eclipses the chaos around her. Silent, with musical accompaniment by Stuart Oderman. Approx. 138 min.
