1921. Germany. Directed by Leopold Jessner, Paul Leni. Screenplay by Carl Mayer, based on the play Juana by Georg Kaiser. With Henny Porten, Wilhelm Dieterle, Fritz Kortner. Porten, one of the leading stars of German cinema, plays opposite Dieterle, who, after Hitler took power became, one of Hollywood’s most prolific filmmakers. Silent, with English intertitles. Approx. 70 min.

1920. Germany. Directed by Karlheinz Martin. Screenplay by Martin, Herbert Juttke, based on the play by Georg Kaiser. With Ernst Deutsch, Erna Morena, Hans Heinrich von Twardowski, Eberhard Wrede. This rare Expressionist film was not released in Germany at the time of its making and was thought lost until the 1960s, when it was discovered and restored in Tokyo. Courtesy of Filmmuseum, Munich.
