Tragedy of the Street
1927. Germany. Directed by Bruno Rahn. Screenplay by Ruth Goetz, Leo Heller, based on the play by Wilhelm Braun. With Asta Nielsen, Hilde Jennings, Oskar Homolka, Werner Pittschau. Nielsen, in one of her last great roles, plays a past-her-prime prostitute who falls madly in love when she stumbles upon an injured student. Courtesy of Murnau Foundation. Silent, with German intertitles, live English translation, and musical accompaniment. Approx. 80 min.
