Includes the following films:
A Day in the Country
1936. France. Written and directed by Jean Renoir. Based on the story by Guy de Maupassant. With Sylvia Bataille, Georges D’Arnoux, Jeanne Marken, Jacques Borel, Renoir. The film was never finished as planned, but the existing version is an exquisite gem of delirious Romanticism. In French; English subtitles. 45 min.
Boudu Saved from Drowning
1932. France. Directed by Jean Renoir. With Michel Simon, Charles Granval, Marcelle le Hainia, Severine Lerczinska. With its long takes and real locations, this proved to be a model for the French New Wave a quarter-century later. Simon gives a bravura comic performance as a tramp with no respect for the trappings of civilization. In French; English subtitles. 85 min.
