Hospital
1969. USA. Directed by Frederick Wiseman. Wiseman observes the daily activities in New York’s Metropolitan Hospital, which for more than 125 years has served a diverse, mostly poor, African American and immigrant population, and has been vital to the social well-being of the city. “You feel that the experience is totally naked,” Pauline Kael writes in The New Yorker, “that there is no protective tissue between you and the people on screen. It is as open and revealing as filmed experience has ever been.” Winner of the 1970 Emmy Awards for Best News Documentary and Best Director. 84 min.
