Not Wanted
1949. USA. Directed by Elmer Clifton. Produced by Ida Lupino. Screenplay by Lupino, Paul Jarrico. With Sally Forrest, Keefe Braselle. Clifton was seriously ill when work commenced on this film. In order to keep the production alive, Lupino quietly stepped in to direct. Though she didn’t take a screen credit, Lupino did extend to Dorothy Arzner, one of Hollywood’s first women directors, an invitation to “a first cut of the first [film] I’ve directed.” 94 min.
