2004. USA. Written and directed by Jessica Yu. Based on the writings of Henry Darger. Darger was a reclusive Chicago janitor who died at the age of eighty-one, but not before writing an epic novel of more than 15,000 pages featuring warrior children known as the Vivian Girls. Many a thesis has been written on Darger’s psychosis-fueled aesthetic, but others believe that the aesthetic drove the psychosis. In either case, this fascinating, disturbing documentary will leave you wanting to know more about Darger. 81 min.
